Hi-Drive at CARNET – IX Symposium on Urban Mobility Challenges in Barcelona

On 6 September 2023, Hi-Drive participated in the CARNET IX Symposium on Urban Mobility Challenges in Barcelona, focusing on a global perspective of autonomous and connected vehicles. This symposium envisioned a future where self-driving cars communicate seamlessly via internet connectivity, a concept becoming a reality worldwide.

The event explored how autonomous and internet-connected vehicles will impact roads and transportation choices, addressing safety concerns and offering a comprehensive understanding of the digital revolution in urban mobility. By optimizing traffic flow, minimizing congestion, and creating efficient transportation options, these technologies promise to reduce carbon emissions and foster environmentally conscious urban environments.

To achieve successful implementation, collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial. This partnership aims to drive innovation and ensure autonomous and connected vehicles become a reality, promoting a sustainable and digitally advanced mobility future.

During the symposium, experts, researchers, industry leaders, and policymakers gathered to discuss the progress, challenges, and societal impacts of this transformative technology. Aria Etemad, from Volkswagen Group Innovation and Hi-Drive project coordinator, delivered the inaugural keynote, “Designing Automation: Enablers and Research Needs.” Oriol Mas Bosch, Head of ADAS Parking & Innovation at SEAT and Hi-Drive project partner, presented SEAT’s specific use case and approach within the Hi-Drive project.
